Bantams

While I am not really a bantam person, there are a few breeds who truly captured my attention and I am lucky enough to have them in my flock. The most recent additions are Buff Nankins, gifted to me from a private flock. They have a beautiful, trilling crow and they are, to my mind, tiny works of perfection. I am currently hatching these at home and there may be some limited availability in 2010.

I regret not having a camera on hand to record the look on my husband’s face the day I came home with my first white Silkie, Mr Fozzie-man. Since then, he has learned to love these funny little birds and I have taken the opportunity to buy more.

Our Silkies began hatching early in 2010! They’re cuter than cute! Some are what we hope will be show quality, others are pet quality, and will either be sold as pets or kept as broody hens.

I am also very pleased with the pair of Blue Bantam Cochins that I bought in the summer of 2009. We have enjoyed watching them grow and mature into this beautiful pair of birds….

UPDATE: Sadly, Rusty, a hard-feathered Silkie / D’Uccle mix, fell foul of a passing coyote in early March. His vociferous presence will be much missed.
