I started off with six birds, but my flock grew rapidly! Some of the breeds came to me by accident, such as the Golden Comets which I have grown to love, but others, like my Silver Laced Wyandottes, caught my eye early on and I just knew I had to have some. My flock free-ranges in a secure area – we have a high incidence of predators in our area – under the watchful eye of Snowball, my huge, handsome White Rock rooster.

In 2010, we hope to be able to offer hatching eggs, we are currently testing fertility of some of our eggs with an at-home hatch.

• We have a limited supply of ‘mutt eggs’, which will simply give you good, reliable, non-purebreed layers. They will come from our White Rock and Blue Orpington roosters and our Golden Comet, Australorp, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Barred Rock and White Rock girls. Pictures of these crosses should be available soon. We can’t wait!
